Pretty in pink

Yesterday you saw the before:

I swear, a choir of angels bursts into song every time I open the door.

Hallelujah.

Of course, I never in a million years expected to voluntarily paint a room in my own house pink, but here we are. People change, I guess. Even me.

It's obviously not done but it's at a point where I no longer want to gouge my eyes out rather than look at it. And that, my friends, is progress I can live with.

You may have noticed a couple things. Firstly, that I did finally get pom pom fringe on those curtains.

I completely and 100% copied the idea from Chris Love Julia, right down to using the same Ikea curtains, and I have no shame for doing so. I love how it turned out.

(Also, you can't really see it, but there's a blackout curtain behind the sheer-ish ones. It doesn't completely cover the window but it blocks out enough light that the girls should be able to sleep in there just fine. If it ends up being a problem, I'll just order a second one to cover the gap. No biggie.)

Secondly, the closet door knobs are not all the same. That's because I bought some replacement knobs, but when I went to put them on I discovered that the old blue ones left a visible blue ring that the new ones don't hide.

It's only mildly annoying, since I'd planned to repaint the closet doors anyway.

And speaking of other things that need to happen, here are the latest to-do lists for this room. My goal is to have it finished by the end of the year. I'm not sure how many long term items we'll be able to squeeze in between now and then, but David did just get a raise, so maybe installing new flooring isn't too unreasonable...? We'll see.

RIGHT NOW:

• Vacuum (Margot passed out in the swing while I picked up and took pictures, so I didn't want to wake her)
• Move Mila's crib in
• Finish Mila's quilt so she can move into a twin bed
• Move the twin bed in
• Buy a new dresser for the girls (their current one is a hand-me-down and is--after a million years of use--literally falling apart)
• Get finials for the curtain rods
• Paint the closet doors & trim
• Replace the closet door knobs

IN THE NEAR FUTURE:

• Make a headboard for Mila's bed
• Create a reading nook in the corner (I'm thinking low shelves, a couple little poufs to sit on, and maybe a lamp or something. We'll see.)
• Hang things on the walls (I have a few pictures already and have several more items in mind that I want to acquire.)

LONG TERM:

• Replace the ugly carpet with the same wood we used in the master bedroom
• Get a soft fluffy rug or two
• Scrape the popcorn off the ceiling
• Replace the light with a ceiling fan (I'd love to get a pretty light fixture, but let's face it: with the heat around here, you'd be foolish not to have a fan of some kind in your bedroom)

Mila loves it already; she says, "Woooooow!" whenever she goes in. It's going to be so great when it's finished. I can't wait.
