California, here we come!

I had every intention of blogging every day this week. I've got drafts all written up and a list of photos to take during the girls' naps...and it is already Thursday and when did that happen?
In the middle of swimming lessons and library visits and last-minute shopping excursions and tons of laundry and attempting to use up all the perishable food so we don't come home to a fridge full of hazardous waste. That's when.

Tomorrow we're leaving this ridiculous heat behind to spend a week at the beach, and not a moment too soon. It's supposed to reach 118  in the Valley tomorrow, but it'll be a cool 75 where we're going. I'm packing sweaters. Thinking about it makes me a bit giddy.

Getting our family of four ready for a week-long holiday has been exhausting, especially since David is working some crazy hours in order to wrap up some important things before we leave. I know I shouldn't complain, because I only have two kids (as opposed to, say, nine) and a husband who helps out (as opposed to no husband at all), but still. It's hard. My to-do list is still a mile long. Yesterday while Mila was napping, instead of putting Margot down and knocking some stuff out, I fell asleep nursing her. I'm not entirely sure how we're going to handle a 6-hour drive with a) a baby who hates her car seat and b) two drivers who are only averaging 4 hours of sleep at night. I foresee a meltdown somewhere between here and Indio. I just hope it's not me. That would be embarrassing.

BUT

Once we actually get there, it'll be smooth sailing, right? Lots of lounging on the beach with a good book, poking anemones at the tide pools, taking naps while someone else watches babies, chatting with siblings I rarely get to see, stuffing myself to the gills with delicious foods, going to the temple for the first time in I'm-ashamed-to-admit-how-long, taking beautiful photos, unplugging from the internet (try not to be too disappointed that there won't be new posts for a while), and other miscellaneous vacationy stuff. It's gonna be incredible.

In the meantime, I should step away from the blog and get packing.

See you in a couple weeks!
