Since one of my goals this year is to read more, I thought I'd start sharing some of our family's current reads here. And oh! So many books! We're in a fun stage where we're getting books at just about every reading level--and I've finally given in and started adding nonfiction to my stacks of novels--so our house is scattered with quite the variety of reading material. It's marvelous.
With so many to choose from, I pulled a few that we've read recently and loved, are currently reading, or plan to read in the next little while.
M: Grandma gave her Skippyjon Jones
A: I recently got her a couple chapter books for us to read together. Her first choice was Mr. Popper's Penguins
David: The Martian
On that same trip he started reading a couple of the James Bond books by Ian Fleming. He says they're all right. Embarrassingly misogynist and racist, but that's about what you'd expect from Bond. I'm making him read Brené Brown's Daring Greatly
Me: I started The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian the other night while nursing the baby. I expected light; it's not. I spent my teenage years living right next to the Navajo reservation, and with its discussion of race and small towns and stereotypes and belonging and hope and the lack thereof, this book is hitting really close to home. It's uncomfortable reading, and that is probably a good thing.
I've glanced at Light on Yoga but only spent a few minutes with it. I'm hoping for some help with my goal to figure out inverted poses. Of course, I should probably just try them instead of reading about them, but...this is me we're talking about. Also in keeping with the goals thing, I want to read All the Money In the World with David. I've heard it's good, and since we're trying to look closer at the way we make and spend and think about money, it can only help, right?
What did I tell you? A little bit of everything. So now it's your turn. What books are on your to-read list these days?
Oh, Skippyjon Jones!! Such a wonderful collection of stories! I love ALL of them!

Skippyjon Jones was such a favorite in our house too! Can't wait for our newest little guy to get into this one as well.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! I need to read more too but between everything that I already read for school, work, blog, marketing, and new website I'm well...overwhelmed sometimes lol
