...make a lemon meringue pie.
That's how the saying goes, right?
It seems whenever I get into a good rhythm, set solid goals for myself, and start to feel like I've got a handle on stuff, life happens. You know the feeling? Like one morning you wake up and you've got it all totally figured out, and by that same evening you're like WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING HOW DID I GET HERE WHERE DID MY LIFE GO
That's kind of how this week has been. Nothing major. Just lots of small plans gone awry. Lots of tired evenings after a day of accomplishing very little. Lots and lots and lots of tantrums. (Will someone, incidentally, please tell me when and why my lovely children were replaced by shrieking baboons? Because I'd like to exchange them back, please.)
I vented a little on Instagram today and got such kind responses from people who have been there. Or who are there. Or who appreciate that I'm there, even if they don't exactly know what being there feels like. It reminded me yet again how grateful I am for the connective power of the internet, and for the knowledge that even though I'm doing hard work, I'm not the only one.
We are all doing hard work. We may be raising children to be good people, showing extra kindness to an overstressed coworker, listening to a friend who need some advice, supporting a family member as they make a difficult decision, holding our tongue when we desperately want to lash out, speaking up when it really matters, or reaching out to a stranger on the internet to say, "I understand, and it'll be okay." It's hard. When people cut you off on the freeway, or steal your credit card number, or say something rude about your appearance, or any number of terrible things humans do to each other, it's hard to keep moving forward with a positive attitude. It just is.
But whatever you are doing to make the world a little sweeter, please keep doing it. You are making a difference. You matter to someone. When you have one of those days, just keep forgiving and loving and trying your best and spending time with good people who throw sunshine around like confetti.
And if you need a boost, bring those lemons on over and I'll make you a lemon pie with extra meringue. You deserve it.
Wow! You're amazing! Meringue is SO out of my comfort zone. :) Your blog is adorable!
ReplyDeleteIt's surprisingly easy with a stand mixer. Promise. :) Thanks for the kind words!
DeleteAwe, my most favorite pie of them all! Gorgeous! And goodness I love how you write with your heart- so nice to know I'm not alone in those feelings. Parenting- this life can be a lonely rode sometimes. Now I'm off to get supplies- that pie needs to be made- STAT.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the love, Holly. Isn't it great to have a community of support? Makes parenting less lonely. Hope your pie was yummy!
