We were supposed to be in Charleston today. David would work, I'd see the sights, then we'd meet up for some she-crab soup and something decadent for dessert. Instead we caught the common cold. All four of us. With all the snot and headaches and general malaise, it's been a fun week. At home. Not in Charleston.
Since we'd planned to be out of town, I made absolutely zero plans for David's birthday. Once we canceled our flights it dawned on me that I had less than 48 hours to figure out some way to celebrate.
To top it off, a close friend of my family passed away last week and the funeral is tomorrow. Right now I'm driving myself and the girls up to my parents' house, leaving David all by his lonesome on the night of his birthday.
Which is why we surprised him with a little party yesterday.
(See? I'm not such a terrible wife after all!)
It wasn't anything fancy: just balloons, streamers, hats, dinner, and cake. (Obviously. Don't you know me at all?) His mom stopped by to drop off a little gift just in time to join in the festivities.
Sure, we were a little sad that things worked out as they did, but that's life. You can either wallow in disappointment or make the best of things and have some fun anyway. And there's nobody I'd rather have fun with than this guy.
I sure hope you know how much we love you, Daddy-man. You're the bestest. Happy birthday.
Good for you being so amazing! I'm so sorry about your loss as well as your colds :(
ReplyDeleteThanks Ali. I'm not "so amazing" but I'm certainly going to try harder this year.
