Phoenix Blogger Meet-up

Last Friday night I went to a blogger meet-up at Sweet Cakes Cafe with my friend Lydia and her friend Brooke. Katie of Katilda and Camille of Friday We're In Love played hostess, and we all spent a lovely evening getting to know a bunch of other ladies from around the Valley and munching on the tasty snacks Sweet Cakes provided for us.

Everyone brought gift bags filled with a few of our favorite things, which we swapped with one another, and each person had a chance to introduce herself to the group, which was both nerve-wracking and highly entertaining. There's some cool and kind of hilarious people out there, yo.

Long story short, I stayed out way past my bedtime (we stopped at Taco Bell for nachos and ended up talking about Lou Reed for far too long) and enjoyed myself thoroughly.
I included tiny terrariums with tiny air plants in my gift bag. Those little guys are seriously the coolest.

The end.

(Not really.)

It amuses me to no end to think of myself as a "blogger." I mean, yes, here's the proof that I have a blog and post on it regularly--and have done so off and on for seven years now--but for so long it's been just me and a handful of friends and family and that's been fine.

Yet here we are. I participate in link parties and see my cake photos show up on Pinterest and get invited to munch on cinnamon rolls with other people who write stuff online. Far as I can tell, my  mom and sister are not the only people who swing by here these days. I'm not sure that qualifies me as a capital b Blogger, but I guess it's something.

Of course I lugged along my giant camera bag and took exactly zero photos of the entire event. I'm hoping some of the photo booth shots the photographer there took turned out well, because then I'll have proof that I came, I saw, I ate. (Specifically, I ate several really delicious butterscotch bar things that I wish I had a recipe for because I'm pretty sure I need to have at least two of them every day. For my health.) Anyway, my point here is that because this was a local event, I can cross one more item off my list, even if I don't yet have photographic evidence. Woo!
One of my gift bags had some fantastic purpley nail polish in it. After I foolishly tried to paint my own toes (not an easy feat with the belly in the way; I did a TERRIBLE job) Mila insisted I do hers too. Fun mommy-daughter bonding times. I wish I could remember who it was from so I could thank her!

AND--this is the best part--I think I made a few new friends. Maybe we'll hang out again. Maybe we'll just be bloggy buddies. Either way, it's nice to know there are cool people out there who like me. Or maybe they just like the tiny bundt cakes I stuck in their gift bags. Same thing.

(Recipe forthcoming, of course. Don't you worry.)

  3. The pictures will come soooon :) Don't worry! And I loved the plant idea. If I had won that, however, I know I'd find a way to kill it. I'm kind of cursed. haha

    1. Yay pictures! And I used to be a plant killer. Just ask the poor potted cactus that I let shrivel and die over the course of three years. *shakes head in shame*
